SaatchiNY received exciting news last week that fits perfectly into our True Blue ideals. Our home offices at 375 Hudson Street have been certified as the first “existing” building in NYC to be certified LEED Gold!
You’re probably asking, what does that mean?
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a world renowned leader in “green building” certification. Working with architects, engineers and property managers around the globe, LEED has been instrumental in creating a consistent framework within which to rate the environmental sustainability of a building. Gold certification is the second highest rating LEED offers – with platinum being the crème de la crème of environmental stewardship.
What makes our gold rating so special?
Right now, all the other gold rated buildings in New York City are newly constructed buildings. Buildings like the Hearst Tower and Bank of America’s One Bryant Park are amazing examples of what newly constructed green buildings can be . . . but 375 Hudson is the first ever existing building in the city to be certified LEED gold. It’s a huge testament to the level of effort that the tenants and our property manager, Tishman Speyer has put into reducing their carbon footprint.
What have we done?
Many things – technical enhancements, new processes, supplier management, facilities initiatives, including:
- Reducing the building’s annual water consumption by 1 million gallons. This was done by replacing original restroom fixtures with low flow aerators and new water closets.
- Adopting an expanded recycling program that focused not only office paper and trash, but also batteries, electronic waste and construction debris.
- Implementing a building-wide “Green Cleaning” policy designed to improve the building’s air quality and ensure the purchase of sustainable cleaning and janitorial paper supplies.
- Our building runs on wind generated alternative energy
- The installation of our RTG:375 Rooftop Garden. (If you haven’t checked out the roof garden yet – be sure to do so before we harvest this fall.)
Thanks and congratulations to our executive leadership, property manager, facilities and operational staff and our True Blue team for all of the work that went in to earning this landmark achievement.
I’ll close with words of our Chief Sustainability Officer, Adam Werbach:
We’re thrilled to have supported Tishman Speyer in this achievement – it’s part of our True Blue commitment to becoming the world’s most sustainable Agency.
