True Blue Day 2012

Monday, April 30th, 2012

We’re excited to announce that Saatchi NY will host its second (yes, we can call it this now) annual True Blue Day on May 11th. As you’ll see from our recap of last year, it’s a day where the agency shuts down, spans out across the city and does a whole lot of good deeds. It’s a fantastic time and the perfect way to cap off 7×7: 5th Edition the night before.

All you have to do to register for your project is go to the NY Cares Saatchi page and sign up for one of the below projects. For inquiring minds, the complete list of activities include:

- School revitalization/Mural painting
- Games with senior citizens
- Snacktivities with 3rd graders
- Participate in a music, dance and acting workshop with elementary school students
- Career exploration workshop with high school juniors
- Revitalize East River Park
- Make baby blankets for Auburn Family Residence
- Deliver meals to senior citizens with Meals on Wheels
- Scavenger Hunt with elementary school students at Museum of Natural History

See you there!

Links You Should Give a S#*t About

Friday, April 27th, 2012

How can you not love Fridays when you get to see a SPACE SHIP fly by your office window? Here’s your Links You Should Give a S#*t About – Space Shuttle Enterprise Edition.

SPACE SHUTTLE FLY-BY

Earlier today we were buzzed by the Space Shuttle Enterprise flying down the Hudson. Pretty awe-inspiring stuff.  The photo above comes courtesy of Mark Sherwood’s iPhone.

GOOGLE DRIVE

Imagine a world where everything lives in the cloud for free. That’s essentially what Google Drive wants to offer you. It’s basically Google Docs on steroids.

GAWKER WANTS TO RE-INVENT COMMENTING

Nick Denton is re-inventing the wheel again. This time by totally blowing up the Gawker comments section with a hope of offering something better. Love em’ or hate em’ – you could never say Gawker isn’t at least trying to push the envelope.

IKEA CARDBOARD DIGITAL CAMERAS

This is just a fun idea. Ikea made and distributed a bunch of digital cameras made out of Cardboard.

Saatchi Eats: Pho Sure

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

SAATCHI EATS is a casual insider’s guide to cool food finds around the neighborhood.    This week – Vietnamese Soup and Sandwich slinger Pho Sure / Baoguette (Christopher St. & Bedford St.)

In recent year’s Vietnamese cuisine – and in particular, Banh Mi & Pho – have become favorites for foodies around the city. Michael Huynh’s Baoguette chain played a big part in elevating that craze, and we couldn’t be happier to have a location within walking distance of Hudson/Houston. To up the ante, this particular branch shares space with Pho Sure, offering the best soup and/or sandwich combo in the neighborhood.

SOUP’S WHERE IT’S AT

Pho sure is in the H/H team’s regular lunch rotation, and a big reason is the Pho. Both the Pho Real (beef, brisket & shin served on top of noodles, veggies and a tasty broth) and the Pho Sure (just the beef, with the same everything else) are perfect for cold, rainy or slightly hung-over days. May we suggest adding some heat with Shiracha and complexity with a dollop of Hoisin?

SANDWICH-TASTIC

The banh mi at Baoguette might not be the same cut-rate price you’ll find around Chinatown, but we love that the shop offers a nice variety of sandwiches all served on hot out of the oven French bread. The classic baoguette is our usual go-to, but the chicken, sloppy bao and catfish are all great options. The best part? Almost all of the sandwiches run less than 8 bucks.

And don’t forget to like AMDRO’s Facebook page / follow them on Twitter.

Links You Should Give a S#*t About

Friday, April 20th, 2012

Another week, come and gone. We’ve got some really great stuff for you in this week’s Links You Should Give a S#*t About. Hope you enjoy them!

A STERLING COOPER DRAPER PRYCE TAKE DOWN

Kudos to Carrot Creative, Jaguar’s real-life ad agency, for coming up with this tongue in cheek “letter” to Don Draper & co. at Mad Men’s Sterling Cooper Draper Price. Great example of the fun to be had when creative work plays on cultural zeitgeist.

TRIBECA FILM FEST

Tribeca Film Fest kicked off this Wednesday, and there’s tons of great films debuting around town. Here’s IndieWire’s take on 12 new films you should go out of your way to see.

TEXT MESSAGE AIRPLANES

This is a fun design idea from Moleskine journals. There’s a reason so many people list them as a Lovemark on our King Street Q&A.

GOOGLE MORSE CODE

Ever need saved from a horrible date but don’t want to call attention to an SOS text? This new feature for Gmail is a little cumbersome, but maybe exactly what the doctor ordered.
