It’s Friday, which means it’s time for your weekly roundup of Links You Should Give a S#*t About. We’ve got hipsters, we’ve got social media and we’ve got Louis CK. What more could a blog ask for, really? Happy browsing!
Most marketers aren’t doing so great with Twitter. Here’s a study explaining what they’re doing wrong and how they can do better. This is a must read for anyone interested in social.
UNIQLO IS PINNING
Uniqlo is up to their usual “we do awesome fun stuff” tricks, this time with a Pinterest-centric campaign.
H/H team member Thea Hughes has a love for fashion (as exemplified here), and when we asked her about some awesome new beads she wore to work last week, she was excited to tell us they came from locally grown Brooklyn brand Fermented beads. We asked if she was interested in doing a write up for the SaatchiNY crew showcasing the brand, and as luck would have it, Fermented recently threw a 1-year anniversary party, which she detailed for us below.
Placed atop a Brooklyn rooftop with the Manhattan skyline in view, Brooklyn’s own Fermented Beads celebrated their 1 year anniversary…and we were there to catch the inside scoop.
Cups were endlessly filled, beats were on steady and almost every wrist was adorned with a Fermented Beads bracelet. The Claw, Snow Day and Brooklyn Blossom, just to name a few.
Two months back we had the pleasure of meeting Christopher Carter (Co-Founder) & Jason Smith (Brand Ambassador) at a Brooklyn recording studio session with the Curators of Dopeness. Ever since then, we’ve been joining forces, creating new friendships, and most importantly dawning that Lion brooch and perfectly fit beads. Hand crafted in Brooklyn, these beads are nothing short of a lifestyle choice and they’ve been creeping through the underground on the east coast with a vengeance.
Before you go check out there website, here’s a few more pics from the Fermented Beads 1 year celebration.
Lenovo is teaming up with Ideas United and the creators of CMF (Campus MovieFest) to launch a film competition for those that do. The challenge? Create an alternate ending for our recently debuted “Seize the Night,” five minute short film (above). Full details on the competition here.
Leveraging Ideas United as an outlet for the film competition brings forth more than 500,000 students from 100 universities to compete – that’s a lot of cinematic talent! On August 13, the alternate endings will be posted online for a two-week ‘website hit’ competition to determine the winner. This competition dovetails nicely with our successful integrated “Do” campaign and empowers talented upcoming film makers to “Do” what they do best.
What’s even cooler? Ideas United provides all the tools FOR FREE, making it a film race where all can participate. Be sure to check out alternate endings once they’re posted on YouTube!
Another year, another week in Cannes. Of course, we weren’t all able to go . . . but we can certainly live vicariously through work mates, right? Special thanks for everyone on the Saatchi NY Twitter list for taking these fun pics on the ground at this year’s Lions.
One of the highlights of Cannes each year is the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase. It’s a place to not just see unbound creative film-making at it’s best – but a venue for the industry to see directors who could (and often are) the next big thing in Hollywood. Michel Gondry? NDS alum. Spike Jonze? NDS Alum. Jason Reitman? NDS Alum. We’ll assume you’re getting the gist.
It’s a pretty amazing thing that Saatchi worldwide has, and we should all be proud that it’s been turning up new talent for a very long time. There was no shortage of inspiration at this year’s edition, with 17 films vying for the audience’s attention. Adweek has a nice rundown of some of the lesser seen works here, and we’ve embedded one of our favorites at the top of the post, but if you want to dive headfirst into all of the films, you can do so on the NDS YouTube page.
Dorothy Khien is a Legal Assistant at Saatchi NY. You’ll also note that she knows lots about food and travel and makes delicious donuts. These are all good things. For more info on non-donut related aspects of her life, you can check out her LinkedIn page.

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE STORY?
I came to NYC with nothing but two suitcases and a dream. I didn’t know a single person in this city and was told by several people back home that I would fail and be back in a couple of months. Fortunately, I landed my dream job at a music company two weeks after my arrival and my potentially short stint turned into 8 years and counting.
Last night Trident Gum hosted See What Unfolds, Live! with Steve Aoki (and special guest Duran Duran!). It was awesome. And even if you weren’t there, you can relive some of the magic by downloading this free Aoki/Duran Duran track “Hungry Like the Wolf – The New York Werewolf Remix” on the Fun Audit Website.
