King St. Q&A w/ Carly Wallace

September 7, 2012 |

Carly Wallace is the AAE at SaatchiNY. For more info on her work life, you can check out her LinkedIn page.

WHAT DO YOU DO AT SAATCHI & SAATCHI?
I am the AAE on a cereal account. It goes without saying breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?
Babysitting. At the ripe old age of 8 I was making a few bucks playing with cute little people—first jobs are hard to beat.

WHAT LED YOU ON THE PATH YOU’RE ON TODAY?
Determination and hard work. And very supportive friends and family.

WHAT ARE YOUR LOVEMARKS?
Cheerios, Toms Shoes, Pixar, North Face, Benziger Family Winery.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE AD (ALL TIME OR CURRENTLY)?
Just saw this little gem, so naturally I added car-less car chase to my bucket list.

IF YOU NEVER HAD TO WORK AGAIN, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO DO?
First I would catch up on sleep, and then I would travel. I would love to spend a few months in each country or city on my list. The more time the better. I envision I would probably Eat Pray Love myself around the world.

FAVORITE PLACE YOU’VE BEEN TO?
Takoradi, Ghana. The people I met showed me what true generosity and happiness looks like.

WHAT’S YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION?
My photographs. Can’t own my friends or family (or can you?) so the next best thing are reminders of the moments I’ve shared with them.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE YOUTUBE VIDEO?
I have too many to admit. But Little Jaime really knows how to lighten my spirits.

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU MAKE REALLY WELL?
Awkward moments. And I can also make a mean chocolate chip cookie.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COLD-WEATHER NYC ACTIVITY?
This will be my first fall/winter in New York. I only know the heat. But I imagine my cold weather activities will be similar, I’ll just be doing them in five layers instead of one. Hot or cold I love combining friends, food, and music.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE LUNCHTIME SPOT NEAR THE OFFICE?
I would be lying if I told you I go anywhere but Pret or Hale and Hearty, but I do love a slice or two from Spunto.

WHAT’S YOUR GO TO KARAOKE SONG? (COME ON, WE KNOW YOU HAVE ONE).
Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.” But, I can never go wrong with a Tina inspired “Proud Mary.”

WHAT’S THE BEST MEAL YOU’VE EVER HAD?
My grandma’s mac’n'cheese. It just doesn’t get any better.

IF YOU COULD BE THE WORLD RECORD HOLDER OF ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
World’s most worldiest person. That would require a lot traveling, and language learning, and culture immersing, and eating. Sign me up!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CREATIVE PURSUIT?
I love to write and draw. And I’ve also been known to get a little creative with emoticons.

WHAT BLOGS/MAGAZINES/BOOKS/PAPERS/WEBSITES CAN YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?
nytimes.com, adage.com, pinterest.com, thekollection.com, and I always appreciate a good crime blotter.

WHAT’S THE LAST GREAT EVENT YOU WENT TO?
The show Fela! Did I think seriously about pursuing a career in dance after I saw this? Yes. Can you blame me? Absolutely not.

WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
Be an active participant in your own life. And drink lots of water (thanks mom!)

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE STORY?
Finding an (almost) affordable, decently (small) sized, cute(ish) apartment in New York. Success!
