Christie’s second from the left

Vote Stone 2012

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

Our favorite trucker-hat-clad beer spokesman Keith Stone is dipping his toe into politics.

His party, the Party Party, stands for Life, Liberty and the pursuit of 5 day weekends, and for the past three weeks, Keith has been building his platform via Facebook. If you haven’t seen his campaign videos (one of which is above), check out the Keystone Light brand page to see all of Keith’s pitch for America, campaign posters and the like

Creative WW: Bohemian Fishes

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

Creative WW is a series dedicated to the work from our Saatchi compatriots around the globe. Yesterday we saw a piece of film that F/Nazca Saatchi & Saatchi down in Sao Paulo did for Trident Fresh, and it was too much fun not to share. It’s got singing animals, rock anthems, and a cat-trimming/bonsai tree mash-up . . . so pretty much everything one can hope for, right?

Deep Like Troy (.com)

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

Ever since he started using Head & Shoulders Deep Clean, Super Bowl champ Troy Polamalu has been inspired to go deeper. So inspired, in fact, that he decided to share his deepness with everyone, by founding the Troy Polamalu School of Deeper Learning, an online university dedicated to deepness and deeper learning.

Visitors to DeepLikeTroy.com will be able to matriculate at the school by viewing online lectures from Troy, teammate Brett Keisel and Dean of Comedy, Rob Riggle. They’ll also get to meet TPSODL’s mascot, Folly the Follicle. And download some deepness for their own personal use on their own time. After all, we all could use a little more deepness in our lives.

Saatchi Eats: Cafe Henri

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

SAATCHI EATS is a casual insider’s guide to cool food finds around the neighborhood.    This week – French café fare from Café Henri (27 Bedford St).

Last week, the H/H team took a trip over to Cafe Henri, a local French hotspot on Bedford and Downing Street. The verdict? A new favorite lunch spot for pretty much all of us. With reasonable prices and a rustic-chic atmosphere, we were excited to dig into the extensive menu of French classics. Here’s a run-down on what we ate and what we thought. Oh, and did we mention they do breakfast all day?

Gratines A L’oignon (French Onion Soup)

A warm appetizer with baked cheese rarely disappoints – and this soup definitely hit the spot. A tasty pre-meal treat with a twist: the rosemary baked into the cheese kicked it up a notch.

Eggs Benedict with Ham, Roasted Potatoes and Mesclun Salad

A classic done well! Some people will argue that brunch is strictly a weekend engagement, but this dish makes the case for why those people are wrong.  You can opt for ham, bacon or smoked salmon, but the ham was a salty and wonderful selection.  In the end, it made for a heavier lunch option but so worth it.

La Poulet Ratatouille (Roasted Chicken and Ratatouille on a Toasted Baguette)

This sandwich was just the right amount of healthy, without being boring. The chicken was tender and the bread was moistened by the delicious ratatouille vegetables. The side salad was classic, with slight oil and vinaigrette.

Le Croque Madame (Toasted Country Bread with Ham, Cheese and a Sunny-Side Egg)

A true French lunch – a croque-anything! The lady-counterpart to the Le Croque Monsieur was to die for. The difference between Madame and Monsieur? Madame comes with the sunnyside egg. Paired with a mixed green salad as the lighter side dish, this was a perfectly balanced meal.

Links You Should Give a S#*t About

Friday, October 19th, 2012

It’s Friday, and we’re all feeling pretty good here at SaatchiNY. There’s lots of work happening, we hosted a revamped Thirsty Thursday party last night (pictures of that coming shortly), and there’s all sorts of awesome happening on the internet. Media, binders, politics, skydiving and more await you below.  Happy browsing!

OCTOBER SURPRISE

It remains to be seen whether this is the real deal or an elaborate marketing scheme, but someone has launched a clock counting down to October 22nd, 5:30PM . . . when an “October Surprise” will supposedly upend the presidential race.

BINDERS EVERYWHERE

65+ million people watched the second presidential debate on Tuesday night. During one of his answers, Mitt Romney talked about “A whole binder full of women” and an internet meme was born.

RED BULL PAID A GUY TO JUMP FROM VERY HIGH IN THE SKY

And it looked like this.

RIP NEWSWEEK

Newsweek, a publication who derives its name from its printing schedule, will cease to exist in print beginning January 2013.

PRESIDENTIAL DOODLES

We all doodle, right? Sitting in a particularly long meeting, trying to keep the creative juices flowing, and you just start scribbling away. As it turns out, Presidents are just like you! Here’s a record of real presidential doodles, including the scribbles of Reagan (cowboys), George HW Bush (frown faces), Andrew Jackson (alligators) and more.

King St. Q&A w/ Tara Lynch

Friday, October 19th, 2012

Tara Lynch is an Assistant Account Executive here at SaatchiNY. If you’re interested in more of her background, you can head over to her LinkedIn page or follow her on Twitter @taralynchh.

WHAT DO YOU DO AT SAATCHI & SAATCHI?
I am an AAE.  FYI – we’re probably not as crazy as we look. Probably.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?
Haha . . .  I was a sales associate at Victoria’s Secret.  I know . . . it still haunts me.

WHAT LED YOU ON THE PATH YOU’RE ON TODAY?
Most likely my Dad (hi dad if you’re reading this).  He’s worked at P&G all his life and has never stopped raving about the Advertising world and culture.  I just had to see what it was all about. I also strongly disliked my other major, Finance.

WHAT ARE YOUR LOVEMARKS?
Amazon, Apple, LuLuLemon, Starbucks, Netflix, Showtime, M&M’s

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE AD (ALL TIME OR CURRENTLY)?
Right now the Audi A6 “Space Alien” commercial is pretty cute:

All-time? That’s tough, but I still LOVE the Darth Vader VW commercial:

IF YOU NEVER HAD TO WORK AGAIN, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO DO?
Live in London and travel around Europe.  I lived there when I was younger and want to go back!

FAVORITE PLACE YOU’VE BEEN TO?
That would have to be Mykonos, Greece.  I went there when I was 12 and haven’t seen a place as beautiful since.

WHAT’S YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION?
It’s not technically mine, but my parent’s house in Avalon, NJ.  Since I was 2, I’ve spent part of my summer there and it’s one of those places that always feels like home.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE YOUTUBE VIDEO?
YES! Jessica’s Daily Affirmations gets me every time.

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU MAKE REALLY WELL?
A mess.  Of my room, of my desk, of my hair, of my emails (sorry clients), etc.

Also: chocolate chip banana bread.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE COLD-WEATHER NYC ACTIVITY?
Not sure yet!  I only moved in on September 1st. Stay tuned…

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE LUNCHTIME SPOT NEAR THE OFFICE?
Well now that Westville is open probably there. Otherwise good ole’ Hale & Hearty

WHAT’S YOUR GO TO KARAOKE SONG? (COME ON, WE KNOW YOU HAVE ONE).
You Make My Dreams. Hall & Oates.

WHAT’S THE BEST MEAL YOU’VE EVER HAD?
I’m not sure about ever…but recently went to this Italian Market named Milano’s on 89th & Third Avenue has AMAZING sandwiches. However, I lived with my grandparents for a while before moving into the city and my grandma makes a great chicken parm. Love ya grams!

IF YOU COULD BE THE WORLD RECORD HOLDER OF ANYTHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I think being the world’s fastest person would be so cool. And could be very useful.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CREATIVE PURSUIT?
I’ve always loved dance, specifically contemporary.  Oh and I’ve recently discovered Pinterest crafts—which are commonly poorly executed.

WHAT BLOGS/MAGAZINES/BOOKS/PAPERS/WEBSITES CAN YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?
Well I have to start out with Harry Potter, and any book by Gillian Flynn is a great read.

Others include Man Repeller/The Sartorialist/ Atlantic-Pacific/Potholesinmyblog (a friend runs this music blog and it’s truly awesome, check it out!)

WHAT’S THE LAST GREAT EVENT YOU WENT TO?
My parents 25th anniversary party.  It was wild… does that count?

WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
If you can take advice from a movie:  “If you can’t laugh at yourself, life’s going to seem a lot longer than you’d like,” from Garden State.  To me, it has never become irrelevant.

WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE STORY?
Funny enough, last night I left my bag containing 5 overpriced Hunt tickets (a horse race in Jersey) on the train.

Upon calling the customer service center, I was told it was a lost cause.  However, 2.5 hours, 15 calls to the MTA customer service lady (June, her name was), 2 calls to the MTA police, and a search through the creepy/ dark New Haven MTA train yard later, Bob (the MTA man) appeared holding the bag.

Being one of chronic bad luck, this may be one of my greater nothing is impossible stories.

P.S. Moral of the story: don’t leave luggage on overhead racks.

Go Purple

Thursday, October 18th, 2012

Two years ago, a teenager asked her friends to wear purple to show support for young LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people. Soon, with the help of GLAAD, millions participated, including cast members from Glee, Ricky Martin, Katie Couric, The White House, brands like Facebook and Goldman Sachs, the cast of the View and on-air hosts at CNBC. The video above supported Spirit Day from last year, and is filled with the reasons we’re so supportive of the cause.

Publicis’ Egalite Group and Saatchi & Saatchi are proud supporters of Spirit Day 2012, which is happening tomorrow (October 19th). We hope that you’ll consider joining us in “Going Purple” On Friday. To take the pledge online, go to www.glaad.org/spiritday and be sure to hashtag photos of yourself using #SpiritDay.
