The Sights & Sounds of Cannes

Monday, July 11th, 2011

After chatting with some of the SaatchiNY folks on the ground at Cannes this year, we thought – “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool if someone wrote about the cool stuff they saw?” We managed to talk the lovely Emily Grassmeyer (an Account Supervisor at Saatchi NY) into writing up her top ten sights and sounds from her first trip to the Lions (in no particular order). Enjoy!

#1 – LE PALAIS DE FESTIVALS

Le Palais de Festivals, host to Festival events, including Award Ceremonies (and post-ceremony crowds).

#2 – THE SAATCHI & SAATCHI NEW DIRECTORS SHOWCASE

Celebrating it’s 21st year at Cannes was the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase.  Various work from 17 up and coming directors was shown, including my personal favorite, “Dirt Devil” by Andreas Roth.

#3 – MALCOLM GLADWELL

Malcom Gladwell talks innovation and the link between organizational culture, and the ability to innovate.

#4 – PHARRELL

Digitas & Vevo did a panel featuring Pharrell from NERD. The discussion on the collaboration between brands and artists was insightful and awesome.

#5 – SUNDANCE

Robert Redford talked about the growth and changes of the Sundance Film Festival over the years, as well as the shifts in modern media consumption.

#6 – Rosé

It’s a must-have in Cannes. It’s Refreshing, light, and absolutely everywhere.

#7 – CARLTON BEACH

Set just below The Carlton InterContinental Hotel, Carlton Beach plays host to the Cannes Lions Opening and Closing Galas.

#8 – RUE D’ANTIBES

Rue d’Antibes is the main shopping destination in Cannes.  There you’ll find everything from Louis Vuitton, to Zara, to Macaroons at Jean-luc Pele.

#9 – THE GUTTER BAR

Properly named 72 Croissette, “The Gutter Bar” is the place to be during Festival  week.  It’s here that you’ll find the ad crowd mingling into the wee hours.

#10 – LE CROUQUE MONSIEUR

Grilled ham and cheese goodness, and the perfect post-Gutter Bar snack
