Get Digital: The ecosystem

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Can you believe we’ve already ticked off the first month of 2012? The month has flown by, with almost nobody being more busy than our Lenovo team here at SaatchiNY. That’s why we’re especially happy they’ve found some time to follow up their Lenovo-specific CES report with the first contribution to a new column we’re calling “Get Digital.” Three guesses about what sort of trends will be covered here. Today’s post comes from Aisha Washington and Snigdha Gollamudi. Read it, like it, tweet it. Thanks!

Each year at CES, there’s a big event hosted by CNET in which they announce the next big thing.  This year’s announcement was all about the “ecosystem.”  What exactly does that mean?

The ecosystem is defined as connecting all of the content that is currently stored on multiple hardware devices so that it works seamlessly with one another. The average consumer, like you I’m sure has over 30 devices in their home from the standard laptops, tablets and smartphones to the evolving internet TVs, and GPS devices.  This year’s reported trend is to unite multiple devices together for seamless functionality.

Meet Andrew to understand where the future is headed:

Andrew logs off of his work laptop and leaves his office for the day.  His work computer sends a signal to his car, which starts the engine, warms the seats and cues up Andrew’s favorite digital radio program.  As Andrew gets closer to home the GPS in his car speaks to his house, turning on lights and heating in preparation for his arrival.  Once Andrew steps inside, he heads to the bedroom to get changed. His bedroom TV turns on and gives him a quick summary of the latest headlines.  Andrew then heads to the kitchen to begin prepping dinner.  The oven is already pre-heating and the refrigerator has ordered groceries for the next two weeks. Andrew uses his tablet recipe app, which has anticipated the ingredients available in the fridge, to cook his dinner.

One brand that is on the cutting edge of this new revolution is LG.  They have started creating smart products that can identify and anticipate your needs.  From a refrigerator that helps you diet and keeps track of your groceries, to a robot that vacuums via smartphone control, LG is giving the household a whole new tech makeover.

The LG line of appliances is being called, Smart ThinQ.  At the forefront of its new line is its refrigerator, which just got a lot smarter with a health manager feature that allows you to maintain your diet, send recipes to your smart oven and even keeps you posted when you run out of certain groceries.

The health manager also customizes family member profiles to cater to each person in the house and can be controlled by voice recognition.  LG’s new concept closet virtually eliminates the need for dry cleaning and ironing since it emits steam to help sanitize and de-wrinkle your clothes.

Check out these images of the cool new LG technology:

What does all this mean for us? As a consumer, it’ll hopefully make our lives a lot easier but as marketers we will have to consider the whole consumer journey. Purchasing decisions won’t be based solely on product benefits, but also on how a product functions as a part of the larger system. What we produce will be judged on how seamlessly it fits into the consumer’s life. As devices become platforms for content, and consumers want to move with ease between different mediums to consume this content, we must keep in mind that the “ecosystem” is very quickly becoming an important part of the consumer journey.

CES: A Picture Book

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

At the 2012 CES there were hundreds of new products released by companies in the tech industry, but amidst the clutter, Lenovo was a shining star.

Lenovo had a prime location in the Aquanox Lounge of the Venetian Hotel where the For Those Who Do campaign came to life.  Arriving at the venue we were blown away by how the campaign had been embraced by not just our marketing partners, but the entire organization.  Our work over the past year really came to life and we saw everything from an actual motorcycle with a ThinkPad X1 strapped to the handlebars to a DJ spinning live from his Lenovo.  It was also a great chance to test out some of the latest products that Lenovo is developing like the IdeaCentre A720, the new line of Ultrabook portables and the Lenovo Smart TV. At the show and in the press since, everyone from industry partners and global media to tech insiders have recognized Lenovo as one of the hottest, fastest growing companies in the industry.  Together we’re well on our way to achieving our goal of #1 PC maker in the world.

Lenovo received a record 17 awards at CES across many different categories!

Here are just a few of the accolades they recieved:
·        PCMag.com:  Best of CES – Best Ultrabook – Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga
·        PC World:  Best of CES – Best Desktop – Lenovo IdeaCentre A720
·        CNET:  Best of Show – 2012 Best of CES Finalist – Tablets:  Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga
·        CES Innovations Awards:  Design and Engineering Showcase Award Honoree – Lenovo Thinkpad X1

Here are some cool press clippings from AdAge including an interview with the Lenovo CMO, David Roman.

One Big Baby

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Here’s a fun way to kick off your Monday – some great integrated creative for Luvs diapers. The team built a 20 foot tall inflatable baby inside the Mall of America, and real-time video of the installation is streamed to an app on the Luvs’ Facebook page. The gigantic baby responds in real time anytime that someone clicks the “drop a dooty” button. On site at the Mall of America are 3 large display screens that loop the Blowout Championship TV spot and an up-to-date news feed of the amount of “Likes” and total number of diapers donated.

SUSTAINABLE ENGAGEMENT
To ensure that the program could generate sustained engagement, the team also built a sweepstakes and charity component into the program. Once someone has liked Luvs, and clicked to “drop a dooty” they are automatically entered into the sweepstakes for a chance to win free Luvs diapers, gift cards, prizes from SnapFish, and a family vacation. To keep fans coming back to engage every day, there is a varied prize-giving structure that awards daily, weekly and an overall grand prize.  Additionally, Luvs will donate one diaper to Project Night Night for each click for the first 30,000 clicks.

IT’S WORKING
So far the response from our consumers has been fantastic.

How to Join the Challenge: Head over to Luvs’ Facebook page and like Luvs. Then click on the Heavy Dooty Blowout Challenge link under the profile picture.

Head & Shoulders “Mane Man”

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

A new football season brings a new round of advertising from Head & Shoulders “mane man,” Troy Polamalu. Men will go to any length to get legendary hair, from borrowing Troy’s shampoo to borrowing his hair altogether.

Troy’s third season as a spokesman for H&S also brought some hi-jinks. Madame Tussaud’s unveiled a wax figure of Troy at their museum in New York last week, but some visitors in LA were led to believe that the statue was completed this summer. The video’s had great success, picking up over a million hits already.

Cheer with Cheerios

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

We invite everyone at 375 Hudson to visit the Cheerios team in the lobby on Monday October 24th to help spread Cheer to a military family!  All you have to do is stop by our table, fill out a post card and the USO will make sure it is delivered to a military family.

Everyone can use a little pick me up now and then. But for the millions of military families manning the fort at home while their loved ones are away serving, a gesture of cheer is especially welcome.  To show them that America cares, Saatchi NY on behalf of Cheerios® and the USO have launched “Cheer,” a postcard campaign that spreads cheer directly to these honorable military families and supports USO programs.

Here’s how it works:  During the months of October and November, 2011, specially-marked boxes of Cheerios cereal will feature Cheer postcards on the front of the box. Consumers can simply cut out the postcard, write a message of thanks on the back, add a stamp, and mail the per-addressed card to the USO.  The USO will deliver the Cheer card to military families across the country.  For each postcard received, Cheerios will make a donation to the USO to help fund programs designed to support military families.  It’s a simple way to say thanks and lift the spirits of our country’s military families.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday.

A Day in the Life

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

A few weeks back we shared a new spot for Lenovo called businessman. It was the first in a series of “day in the life” spots that highlight not just the awesome-ness, but also the flexibility of the Lenovo products. Without further ado, we’d like to present to you the second of said spots: “the band.” We’ve also included the first spot below in case you missed the original post. Happy viewing!
