CES: A Picture Book

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

At the 2012 CES there were hundreds of new products released by companies in the tech industry, but amidst the clutter, Lenovo was a shining star.

Lenovo had a prime location in the Aquanox Lounge of the Venetian Hotel where the For Those Who Do campaign came to life.  Arriving at the venue we were blown away by how the campaign had been embraced by not just our marketing partners, but the entire organization.  Our work over the past year really came to life and we saw everything from an actual motorcycle with a ThinkPad X1 strapped to the handlebars to a DJ spinning live from his Lenovo.  It was also a great chance to test out some of the latest products that Lenovo is developing like the IdeaCentre A720, the new line of Ultrabook portables and the Lenovo Smart TV. [picture of Chris Connor- Account Executive playing piano on the A720]

At the show and in the press since, everyone from industry partners and global media to tech insiders have recognized Lenovo as one of the hottest, fastest growing companies in the industry.  Together we’re well on our way to achieving our goal of #1 PC maker in the world.

Lenovo received a record 17 awards at CES across many different categories!

Here are just a few of the accolades they recieved:
·        PCMag.com:  Best of CES – Best Ultrabook – Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga
·        PC World:  Best of CES – Best Desktop – Lenovo IdeaCentre A720
·        CNET:  Best of Show – 2012 Best of CES Finalist – Tablets:  Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga
·        CES Innovations Awards:  Design and Engineering Showcase Award Honoree – Lenovo Thinkpad X1

Here are some cool press clippings from AdAge including an interview with the Lenovo CMO, David Roman.

Counterfeit

Monday, January 9th, 2012

2011 marked the third consecutive year Saatchi & Saatchi has sponsored the NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE Producer’s Award at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. This award celebrates the indomitable spirit of Independent Filmmakers, whose achievements often defy the laws of both finance and physics. Their passion, persistence and vision are the very essence of ‘Nothing is Impossible.’

We are pleased to present the fourth installment in our 2011-12 series of the ‘Nothing is Impossible’ Producers Award Finalists’ Screenings.  On January 11th from 12-1:30pm in the Board Room, we present the short film Counterfeit (TRT 16 min), followed by a discussion with the producer/director Geoff Bailey (Sandwich lunch served, RSVP: Danica Rosen).

Counterfeit is a voyeuristic snapshot of the underground trade in counterfeit goods plied by West African peddlers in New York’s Chinatown. Counterfeit lifts the veil on the ad hoc morality behind crafty commerce.

See you in the screening room!

Penguin Prison

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Before our holiday party next Thursday, we thought we’d provide a little background on the evening’s entertainment – Penguin Prison.

ABOUT THE BAND
Created by producer/musician Chris Glover, Penguin Prison released their first record (Animal Animal/A Funny thing) in 2009. The best way to classify them is good old fashioned “synth pop,” and they’ve been compared to everyone from Hot Chip to LCD Soundsystem. A lot of early adopters got a taste for them when they toured with Jamiroquai . . . who you might remember from this video:

THE INTERVIEW
For further insight in the world of Penguin Prison, our own Ryan Fitch & Annick Mayer interviewed Chris Glover on the origins of the band, style & everything in between. Here’s the skinny:

When did you first get into music?
When I was 2 years old my parents enrolled me in the Turtle Bay Music School.  I started banging on some drums there and realized that I wanted to be a musician before I could even speak very many words.

Your style has definitely evolved over the years. Tell us about the type of music you were making before Penguin Prison.
Before I became Penguin Prison I made some rap music, some punk rock music and some of everything else in between.  I think it’s OK to try to do whatever you feel like doing in this life because before you know it you will be gone.

What’s the story behind the name?
George W. Bush is the reason I am called Penguin Prison.  I made a joke song about him when he was the president and started freestyling “he’s a penguin vision, he went to the penguin prison and assumed a penguin position,” and then I remembered it later when trying to name my band.

Tell us about the music video you recently shot down at OWS.
I wrote and recorded “Don’t Fuck With My Money” some time before the Occupy Wall Street protest began but I felt that some of the lyrics reflected the sentiments that a lot of people have right now.  Inspired by OWS and by the other protests that have sprung up all over the world I decided to film the video at the march that went from Zucotti Park to Times Square.  Filming it was an amazing experience and I hope the video can help to bring their message to even more people than it has already reached.

Whether it’s when writing or performing, where do you draw inspiration from?
The best way for me to write songs is to write them in my sleep.  I wake up in the middle of the night and sing melodies into a tape recorder that I keep next to my bed and then I go back to sleep.  When I wake up in the morning I listen to what I recorded and finish the song from there.

What’s your favorite Penguin Prison gig you played so far?
I have fun at most of my shows.  The best is usually when people get so crazy that they start to jump on stage or just start screaming things at me while I am in the middle of a song.  One time, someone in the front was so excited they were grabbing at my hand and pulling it away from my guitar, preventing me from playing it.  I would rather have been able to play my guitar but I was glad she was so excited.

Is there any artist that you would love to collaborate on some future projects?
I like to collaborate with many different kinds of people.  It would be great to make a song with Kanye West at some point.

Since it is “that time of year,” what is your best Holiday memory?
When I was 9 years old my dad gave me a dog for Christmas and I got freaked out because I thought it would be a lot of responsibility I think.  But then he started playing with me and I realized that it was a good thing and he was my best friend after that.

Artists from Bob Dylan to Best Coast have all taken a crack at Holiday tunes. If you had to perform any Christmas song, what would it be and why?
My favorite is Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song.”  I feel like if I recorded that song I would just do an impersonation of him so I would try to write my own Christmas song instead.

Name three things on your Holiday wish list.
Peace in the Middle East.  A gym membership.  Chocolate.

Lastly, what does 2012 have in store for Penguin Prison?
Lots of touring all over the world!

SEE YOU THERE
In a nutshell, if you like dance music, NY disco or anything similar, Thursday’s going to be a really fun night for you. If you’re not, there’s also a bar and hundreds of your closest friends and coworkers to celebrate with . . . so come anyway!
