Oscar, anyone?

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

You know what we really like? The Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. We love judging and awarding the Nothing Is Impossible Producers Award each year, and have had a blast bringing in filmmakers and their pictures to screen in our monthly MVAAFF Series. So we’re extremely proud and excited to announce that a 2011 finalist film of the Producer’s Award, ‘The Barber of Birmingham,’ was nominated this week for a Best Documentary (short subject) Academy Award!

This film, directed and produced by  Robin Fryday, Gail Dolgin and Abby Ginzberg, depicts the journey and struggle for human and civil rights in America through the eyes of an almost overlooked foot soldier; the unassuming James Armstrong The Barber of Birmingham.

In early December Saatchi screened this film in our New York office and are now planning a return engagement. Stay tuned!

Counterfeit

Monday, January 9th, 2012

2011 marked the third consecutive year Saatchi & Saatchi has sponsored the NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE Producer’s Award at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. This award celebrates the indomitable spirit of Independent Filmmakers, whose achievements often defy the laws of both finance and physics. Their passion, persistence and vision are the very essence of ‘Nothing is Impossible.’

We are pleased to present the fourth installment in our 2011-12 series of the ‘Nothing is Impossible’ Producers Award Finalists’ Screenings.  On January 11th from 12-1:30pm in the Board Room, we present the short film Counterfeit (TRT 16 min), followed by a discussion with the producer/director Geoff Bailey (Sandwich lunch served, RSVP: Danica Rosen).

Counterfeit is a voyeuristic snapshot of the underground trade in counterfeit goods plied by West African peddlers in New York’s Chinatown. Counterfeit lifts the veil on the ad hoc morality behind crafty commerce.

FAB NY Reel Showcase

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

Consider this your weekly social alert. We received a tip yesterday from an Assoc. Creative Director about a great event tomorrow night @ Gallery Bar – the FAB Reel Showcase. The event is sponsored by FAB-NY (Film & Advertising Broads [no, that’s not a typo, and we didn’t mean boards]), who are one the most dynamic social networking group for women in NYC’s creative industries.

They also work in tandem with She Says, of which you’ll know something about if you saw Lillian Coryn speak at 7×7 awhile back. It’s a great opportunity to network and meet other smart, creative people in the field.  Get out and go if you get the chance!

MVAAFF: Flat Tire

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

2011 marks the third consecutive year Saatchi & Saatchi has sponsored the NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE Producer’s Award at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. This award celebrates the indomitable spirit of Independent Filmmakers, whose achievements often defy the laws of both finance and physics. Their passion, persistence and vision are the very essence of ‘Nothing is Impossible.’

We are pleased to present the second installment in our 2011 series of the ‘Nothing is Impossible’ Producers Award Finalists’ Screenings.  On November 20th from 12-1:30pm in the Board Room, we present the short film Flat-Tire (TRT 24 min), followed by a discussion with the producer/director Machua Koinange (Sandwich lunch served, RSVP w/ Danica Rosen).

Flat-Tire is a testament to strong narrative overcoming a suicidal production budget. The film cleaver weaving of stereotypes and rug pulls. Three buddies pull over to assist a stranded well-heeled woman. As her tire gets repaired, the trio debates the merits of mercy versus mercenary.  Mercy triumphs… or does it?

Head & Shoulders “Mane Man”

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

A new football season brings a new round of advertising from Head & Shoulders “mane man,” Troy Polamalu. Men will go to any length to get legendary hair, from borrowing Troy’s shampoo to borrowing his hair altogether.

Troy’s third season as a spokesman for H&S also brought some hi-jinks. Madame Tussaud’s unveiled a wax figure of Troy at their museum in New York last week, but some visitors in LA were led to believe that the statue was completed this summer. The video’s had great success, picking up over a million hits already.

As you’ll see in the video above, our CEO Mary Baglivo recently made a guest appearance on Bloomberg Television. Her clip starts at the 32 minute mark, feel free to jump right to it. Nothing beats a good interview on a Wednesday morning, no?

Got Film?

Monday, October 17th, 2011

2011 marks the third consecutive year Saatchi & Saatchi has sponsored the NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE Producer’s Award at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. This award celebrates the indomitable spirit of Independent Filmmakers, whose achievements often defy the laws of both finance and physics. Their passion, persistence and vision are the very essence of ‘Nothing is Impossible.’

We are pleased to present six finalists and the winner of the 2011 Saatchi NOTHING IS IMPOSSBILE Producer’s award at the agency throughout the months of October to April.

You are cordially invited to the second installment of our series of the ‘Nothing is Impossible’ Producers Award Finalists’ Screenings. Beginning on October 19th from 12-2pm in the Atrium Board Room, with the presentation of the documentary Separate but Equal followed by a discussion with the producer/director Shawn D. Wilson. (Sandwich lunch served, RSVP: Danica.Rosen@saatchiny.com).

Separate but Equal’s off-screen biography and on-screen narrative unquestionably, without doubt, embodies the spirit of ‘Nothing is Impossible.’ Through the long forgotten photographs taken by Rev. Anderson, filmmaker Shawn D. Wilson provides a rare portrait of a thriving African-American middle class community in Mississippi during the Civil Rights Era.

Trailer’s above. See you in the screening room!
