Versailles ’73

Wednesday, May 15th, 2013

We’re excited to host the third installment of our NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE Award screening series tomorrow. For those of you that missed the first two occasions, the series gives SaatchiNYers the chance to see finalists from the NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE Producer’s Award we dole out at each year’s Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Fest. All of the films are fantastic, but even better is that screenings are often paired with a discussion with the people who make the films.

Tomorrow we’ll be screening Versailles ’73: American Runway Revolution (trailer above) – a fantastic documentary about the legendary 1973 face-off between American and French fashion designers. The show was turned on its head by a group of African American models who forever changed the face of the industry.

The screening starts at Noon tomorrow and will be immediately followed by a Q&A w/ the director and producer Deborah Riley Draper. Food and drink will also be served. If you’re interested in joining, please RSVP here.

The Powerbroker

Monday, April 29th, 2013

Spring is in the air, and we’re pleased to announce the second installment of our NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE Award Screening Series from the 2012 Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. This Wednesday May 1st, we’ll be screening a 50 minute long documentary of unique power and interest – The Powerbroker: Whitney Young’s Fight for Civil Rights (trailer above).

The film chronicles “Mr. Inside,” Whitney Young navigated the corridors of corporate power with an elegant determination. Despite his boardroom success, and the power he achieved, he remains today an almost anonymous architect of the civil rights movement. It’s a fascinating story and we really hope you can join us at noon in the Atrium Boardroom on 16. Please RSVP here.

Things We Love: Tribeca Film Fest

Tribeca Film Festival 2005

Right after September 11th, Robert Deniro and a few other prominent New Yorkers wanted to do something to bring the art world (and commerce) back into downtown Manhattan. The result was Tribeca Film Festival, and it has become bigger than the founders could have possibly anticipated. Thanks to some big-name sponsors, savvy marketing and consistently great content; Tribeca has become one of the most anticipated film events of the year.

This festival’s 12th go-round is happening now.  Here are three reasons why they’re our favorite fest in the city.

1. The content is consistently incredible.

Tropfest@Tribeca, September 23, 2007

This year’s films are (as almost every year) fantastic. There are plenty of lists of the “must-sees” to be found, our favorite of which comes courtesy of Indiewire. There are also countless panels with filmmakers, producers, critics and the like. We’re particularly excited about the expansion into more tech-specific topics like this afternoon’s free panel on “Big Data & the Movies.” Tribeca has gotten so big that there’s literally something for everybody.

2. They still do rush tickets.

Seriously! With a little bit of luck you can even manage to score last minute tickets to some of the most anticipated films of the week. Pick up your last minute tickets on their website.

3. Proximity!

Yes, Tribeca has outgrown the area of town we traditionally refer to as, well, Tribeca. But almost all of their speaking panels, screenings and evening events are within a short walk of our offices on Hudson & Houston. Some are free, some are not, but almost all of them can fit into your after-work routine if you schedule appropriately. You can see a full event map here.

The Last Fall

Monday, April 22nd, 2013

Saatchi & Saatchi is the proud sponsor for the fourth consecutive year of the NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE Producer’s award at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival.

This award was created to recognize the indomitable spirit of independent filmmakers who produce remarkable, high quality film with a limited budget and resources. We felt the exceptional story telling in the films selected as 2012 finalists and winner truly captures the Saatchi spirit of ‘Nothing is Impossible.’

As part of our ongoing partnership with MVAAFF, we’re also hosting another round of our finalist screening series. Starting this week, we’ll be screening 6 of the films selected as finalists for this years’ award at the agency.

First up is the feature The Last Fall, which tells the story of a journeyman football player comes to terms with his past and a not too promising future as he faces the specter of life after the NFL. We invite everyone to join us this Wednesday (the 24th) for a special lunch-time screening & discussion with the film’s Producer/Director Matthew Cherry. Things get underway at noon and will run until 2PM.

If you’d like to join us, please RSVP here.

The Great TV-off™ Continues

Thursday, April 11th, 2013

It’s official – The Great TV-Off of 2013™ is now too big to be contained by TV. Our latest update comes to you courtesy of The Coin Network, who debuted their first episode of “Career Day” last week.

The host – the one and only Claudine Cheever. Our CSO. A mom herself. And she’s talking to adorable 3rd graders. MUST SEE TV (or web content, anyway). Full video for you above.

The Great TV-Off of 2013™

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013

We’re considering today the kick-off of “The Great TV-Off of 2013™”.

CEO vs. CSO. Two contenders, one year . . . only one can win.

So far our contenders are neck and neck. Our CSO Claudine Cheever has recently been making the media rounds talking to children and talk show hosts and everything in between. Meanwhile, our CEO Durk Barnhill is steadily becoming a contender for “best-interview-in-the-agency” status.

Yesterday he traveled to Bloomberg TV to talk Television up-fronts, Mad Men and ever-present cable vs. network debate. As usual he was great. We’ve embedded the proof for you above.

Head & Shoulders Smells Good

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013

We’ve experienced the year’s first flirtation with 60 degrees, the Mets have won a game already and the entire Yankees payroll is injured, which means Spring is well and truly upon us. To celebrate, Head & Shoulders (with Old Spice!) just launched a new baseball-centric campaign.

The new TV spots are fast and fun, the first two of which we’ve included above for a Tuesday morning chuckle. For further reading head over for the story as reported by the nice folks at Ad Age.

Claudine on Coin

Monday, April 1st, 2013

Here’s a fun way to start your Monday. Our Chief Strategy Officer and resident smartest-person-we-know Claudine Cheever recently did a Q&A with a set of NYC school kids. The session was shot for Career Day, a new YouTube show for The Coin Network. The full episode isn’t available yet, but the network just launched an epic teaser for all their content. It looks pretty cool! You can get a brief taste of Claudine at around the 1:20 mark.
